The Cyber Defense Toolbox
The workforce heat map, a collaborative project between the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE), CompTIA, and Burning Glass, displays national and state-by-state data on cybersecurity positions and personnel. Positions are aligned with the National Cybersecurity Workforce Framework, and the supply and demand of common industry certifications (Security+, CISSP, CISA, CIPP, CISM) are shown. Data is updated annually on a July-June calendar. The site also contains an interactive career map that describes demand, salary, desired skills, and education for a variety of positions.
The Cyber Defense workforce encompasses many levels in terms of knowledge, skills, and abilities. The NCWF organizes the profession into 7 categories, 33 specialty areas, and 52 work roles. Individuals interested in a career in cybersecurity should investigate the options described in the framework - you may discover a new calling!
Missoula College is a member of Cyber Watch West, an organization of higher education institutions, government agencies, and business focused on the development and maintenance of a robust cybersecurity workforce. CWW is the western affiliate of the National Cyber Watch Center.
Missoula College is the only higher education institution in the state of Montana affiliated with Cyber Watch West.
In addition to providing support to the regional Centers, the National Cyber Watch Center offers curricula, virtual labs, ebooks, and an online reference library to assist higher education institutions with cybersecurity programs and workforce development. The National Center sponsors cyber defense competitions including the National CyberLeague, as wewll as the National Cybersecurity Student Association.
Among other offerings, NICE sponsors the NICE Challenge which is a series of online exercises that test participants' knowledge, skills, and abilities in alignment with the Cybersecurity Workforce Framework.
