Career Training Programs in Cybersecurity

Missoula College, in partnership with the Universisty of Montana and the Montana University System, provides career training in 12 areas related to cybersecurity. Training programs are self-paced and give students as well as practicing professionals the opportunity to learn and refine skills in:

Many courses are offered with vouchers to sit for certification examinations. These courses are non-credit and can be started at any time.

Military veterans and government employees (tribal, local, state, and federal) can access the Federal Virtual Training Environment (FEDvte) at no cost. Over 800 hours of cybersecurity training is available in a variety of subjects. Much of the content aligns with industry certifications including CompTIA's Network+ and Security+, and (ISC)2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

General Cybersecurity Knowledge - Online and No-Cost

SANS Cyber Aces - Fundamentals of Cybersecurity - This 3-module course is appropriate for high school students as well as adults who want to learn more about cybersecurity. The course can be taken with our without supplemental quizzes.

Cybrary - This site offers training in over 400 cybersecurity topics free of charge, covering information that ranges from subject-specific microcourses to CISSP certification to hands-on exercises in various cyber defense activities.

Information Assurance Support Environment - This training on a variety of subjects is offered free of charge to state and local governments as well as academic institutions. Material is web- and CD-based, and several include interactive simulation exercises.

InfoSec Institute - Free training on the CISSP cryptography domain as well as practice exams and a CISSP prepartion guide.

National Institutes of Health - The NIH offers a series of short courses rangin from 20-60 minututes in length on subjects including privacy, security awareness, records management, and secure remote computing.

Offensive Security - Metasploit Unleashed - This free ethical hacking course offers solid practice in the use of Metasploit, a widely-used penetration testing tool. Individuals taking the course are encouraged to make a donation to the Hackers for Charity non-profit, which directs funding to underprivileged children in East Africa.

Federal Emergency Management Agency - The National Training and Education Division offers 11 online courses related to cybersecurity including security awareness, digital forensics, incident response, computer ethics, and risk management.

(ISC)2 Safe and Secure Online - This site contains age-appropriate information for all computer users from grade school to senior citizens. Modules can be used in a classroom setting, at home, or at work.
