Communication Studies AA Options

Communication Studies AA Options

Students seeking the Associate of Arts (AA) degree have the opportunity to pursuing two different options in communication: one in Communication Studies and another in Professional Communication. In a 2016 Job Outlook report, the National Association of Colleges and Employers lists the ability to lead, work in a team, solve problems and communicate effectively through written and verbal communication as the top skills employers consider when hiring an employee.  These skills are an integral part of the Communication Studies course outcomes.

The goal of our communication options is to provide students with an opportunity to receive an AA degree in an option that is of increasing demand to employers. Both options prepare students for matriculation into the Communication Studies major within a Bachelor of Arts degree plan at the university. Please see the Department of Communication Studies website for further information regarding this major.

Two Options: Which is Right For Me?

The Communication Studies Option is designed to be more broad-based in its requirements, and also allows for more flexibility in regards to exploring different COMX courses as electives.

The Professional Communication Studies Option includes specific requirements in Technical Writing and Organizational Communication.
